Young Peace Builders gather in Akropong
Akropong will this week be the focal point for an international peace initiative as young leaders from across the globe converge to finalise a curriculum designed to empower youth in peacebuilding.
The Young Peace Builders Project, which has been meeting virtually for some time now is now holding in-person sessions in Ghana to advance its mission.
Head of Department for Regions and Missions Associations at the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS), Rev. Georg Meyer is in Ghana to participate in the project.
He met with Rev. Andrews Odjawo, Director of Ecumenical and Social Relations for the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and Vice President of the EMS Presidium, to discuss collaborative efforts and the future of youth engagement in peacebuilding.
“It is the Young Peace Builders programme that have been meeting virtually for a very long time and designing a curriculum for young people in other regions of the world,” Rev. Georg Meyer said in an interview.
He noted that participants from the Near East and Middle East are expected to join the meeting in Akropong, where the curriculum will be finalised. “Since I’ve been on the programme, I’m looking forward to meeting everybody in person,” he added.
Rev. Meyer also shared that his visit to Ghana includes other engagements. “Obviously while one comes to Ghana, you want to combine it with other things”. He was at the Agogo Hospital last Thursday to visit one of their international youth volunteers.
