Pulpit credibility depends on preacher’s integrity
The President of the National Ministers Conference of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Kofi Amfo-Akonnor in his address has observed that the authority of ministers of God is threatened by lack of integrity.
He said ministers need to recover the spiritual authority of moral leadership, warning that the credibility of the pulpit depends on the integrity of the preacher. That credibility, he argued risked being lost if ministers of God do not wake up to the call of integrity.
“We cannot build the church of tomorrow if we ourselves are spiritually malnourished today,” he said. “When the minister is spiritually alive, the church will be alive. When the minister is disciplined, the church will be disciplined. When the minister is visionary, the church will move forward.”
Rev. Dr. Amfo-Akonnor stated that leadership in the church must be marked by integrity, vision, and accountability. He warned against corruption, tribalism, and personal ambition, urging ministers to model Christ-like leadership.
He showed the way out as he called ministers to return to prayer, diligent study of Scripture, and genuine fellowship. “We must return to the altars of prayer, study the Scriptures diligently, and cultivate genuine fellowship among ourselves,” he said.
Rev. Dr. Amfo-Akonnor concluded with a vision for the future: “Every congregation must become a training ground where gifts are identified and nurtured. Every presbytery must become a laboratory of ministry innovation. And every minister must commit to mentoring the next generation.”
