The 2026 National Ministers’ Conference of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana opened with a stirring charge from the group’s President, Rev. Dr. Kofi Amfo-Akonnor, who called on ministers to embrace leadership rooted in heritage, spiritual depth, and intentional discipleship.

Speaking on the evening of the first day at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Rev. Dr. Amfo-Akonnor reflected on the conference theme: “Equipped to Lead, Empowered to Disciple: Building the Church of Tomorrow” (Ephesians 4:11–12).

He emphasised that the future of the church must be built on the faithful work of the past. “The church of tomorrow cannot be built by abandoning the work of yesterday,” he said. “Our Presbyterian heritage should guide how we innovate.”

Rev. Dr. Amfo-Akonnor urged ministers to resist the pressure to conform to trends or perform for relevance. “We don’t need to perform to be relevant or imitate to be effective,” he declared. “Our confidence is not in trends but in Christ Jesus, who empowers leadership through faith.”

He stressed that tomorrow’s church must be spirit-led, structured, and grounded in intentional teaching. “We must be committed to teaching our heritage intentionally. Our congregants cannot value what they do not understand,” he said.

He called for a renewed confidence in Presbyterian identity, encouraging ministers to embrace renewal without losing order. “The Spirit works through structure,” he affirmed. “We must mentor young leaders and measure success by discipleship, not display.”

Rev. Dr. Amfo-Akonnor concluded with a solemn reflection: “We stand at a crossroads. Our path promises quick results. Lead with wisdom, disciple with depth. May God give us wisdom to reform what is necessary.”

His message set the tone for a week of reflection, renewal, and recommitment to building a vibrant, faithful, and future-ready ministers for the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
