Prayer and Retreat Centres strategic hubs for spiritual growth

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has reaffirmed the role of our 44 Prayer and Retreat Centres as strategic hubs for spiritual growth, forming a vital part of the church’s ongoing efforts to deepen prayer, discipleship, and spiritual renewal across the nation.

Speaking during the PCG Connect session at Church House, Osu, Accra, the Director of Mission and Evangelism, Rev. Dr. E. K. Sarbah, said the centres remain central to the church’s mission agenda. He described them as “places of refuge, restoration and renewal,” noting that they continue to shape the spiritual life of members and congregations.

Rev. Dr. Sarbah emphasised that mobilising the entire church for prayer is essential to sustaining growth. “One way the church’s mission can be realised is by mobilising all members for prayer – a characteristic of a growing church,” he stated, adding that the centres provide the environment and structure needed for such mobilisation.

He highlighted the crucial role these centres play in national programmes such as the Global Presbyterian Prayer Marathon, a 12‑hour annual prayer event held simultaneously across all 21 Presbyteries. The 2026 edition, led by the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, brought together thousands of worshippers in a unified expression of faith and intercession.

Rev. Dr. Sarbah noted that as the church pursues Agenda 2 Million and the planting of 1,000 new congregations, the Prayer and Retreat Centres will remain indispensable. He affirmed that they would continue to serve as “strategic hubs for spiritual empowerment,” supporting the Church’s mission to raise committed disciples and strengthen its witness across Ghana.
