Asante Presbytery elects Rev. Afari Kissi as clerk
The Asante Presbytery has prayerfully elected Rev. Alexander Afari Kissi as the next Clerk of Presbytery during the ongoing 104th Presbytery Session. His election, conducted in accordance with the Constitution of the Church, marks an important moment of leadership transition within the Presbytery.
The PCG Constitution mandates the Presbytery Session to elect its officers, including the Chairperson and Clerk. It further stipulates that a Clerk must be an ordained minister or a lay person of the church, aged not less than 35 and not more than 66 years at the time of election. This year’s election comes ahead of the expiration of the tenure of the current Clerk, Rev. Samuel Adu‑Gyamfi, whose term ends in August 2026.
The process began with nominations, during which delegates were required to nominate candidates for consideration. According to the constitutional provision, a nominee who secures 70 percent of the votes at this stage becomes the sole candidate for affirmation. However, where no nominee attains this threshold, the top three candidates proceed to the next stage for a competitive vote.
At the close of nominations, seven ministers had been presented. Rev. Alexander Afari Kissi received the highest number of nominations, followed by Rev. Samuel Kwaku Darko and Rev. Samuel Boansi. These three were shortlisted for the next stage, but Rev. Boansi later withdrew, resulting in a two‑candidate contest between Rev. Afari Kissi and Rev. Darko.
Delegates returned in a solemn and prayerful atmosphere to cast their final ballots, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit for the Presbytery’s future. At the end of voting, Rev. Afari Kissi secured 112 votes, representing 64.7 percent, while Rev. Darko received 60 votes, representing 34.7 percent. One ballot was rejected.
With this outcome, Rev. Alexander Afari Kissi was duly declared Clerk‑Elect of the Asante Presbytery. Members of the Presbytery expressed gratitude to God for a peaceful, orderly, and spiritually grounded process, trusting that the Lord who has begun this good work will continue to guide the Presbytery.
