Konongo: Agents and spouses undergo medical screening
The Asante Akyem Presbytery has organised a comprehensive medical screening exercise for all Presbytery Agents and their spouses as part of the Church’s commitment to the holistic well‑being of its ministry workers.
The programme, which aligns with the PCG Health Policy, was held last week at the Konongo Bethel Chapel. The initiative reflects the Church’s belief that preventive healthcare is essential for effective ministry. It aimed at detecting early signs of non‑communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity, while also promoting health awareness, lifestyle education, and regular medical checks among ministry families.
The inclusion of spouses underscored the Presbytery’s recognition that the health of a minister’s family contributes significantly to the stability and effectiveness of ministry work. Agents from districts across the Presbytery participated actively in the exercise.
A medical team from the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital conducted a wide range of laboratory and clinical investigations, including Full Blood Count, Urine Routine Examination, Fasting and Random Blood Sugar tests, Liver and Renal Function tests, Lipid Profile, Hepatitis B screening, Homocysteine and Syphilis tests, as well as Sickling and Blood Grouping.
Clinical and specialised assessments such as blood pressure and BMI checks, eye screening, ECG, abdomino‑pelvic scans, and HbA1c tests for diabetic participants were also carried out. Participants received medical consultation, counselling, and health education on diet, exercise, and stress management. Referrals were provided where further medical attention was required.
The exercise reaffirmed the Church’s conviction that “the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:19). By prioritising the health of its workers, the Presbytery is strengthening the foundation for effective and sustainable ministry.
