Let Christ be why we come to church
The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has urged congregants of the Obom District in the Ga West Presbytery to remain united, disciplined, and Christ‑centred in their worship and service to God.
Preaching at the Gethsemane Congregation during his pastoral visit to the district, the Moderator reminded the congregation that Christ must remain the central reason believers gather in church, not personal interests, factions, or internal disputes. He cautioned that division, disorderliness, and unhealthy attitudes have the potential to weaken the spiritual life of congregations and hinder the mission of the church.
He noted that in every church community, there are individuals who may attempt to stir conflict or create disunity, but he encouraged members to resist such tendencies and instead commit themselves to peace, love, and mutual respect.
“Let us unite and grow in Christ. Do not allow disorderliness to take root in the church,” he said, urging the congregation to uphold the Presbyterian values of discipline, order, and Christian maturity.
The Moderator commended the Obom congregation for their dedication, resilience, and active participation in the life of the church. He encouraged them to continue strengthening their fellowship, evangelism, and community witness.
Looking ahead, Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye reminded the congregation not to miss the upcoming PCG Bicentennial Celebration in 2028, describing it as a once‑in‑a‑lifetime moment in the history of the church. He called on members to prepare spiritually and actively participate in the activities leading to the 200th anniversary.
He ended by praying for the congregation, asking God to grant them unity, growth, and renewed commitment to Christ and His mission.
