The Presbyterian Church of Ghana gathered in solemn reverence as ministers, family members, traditional leaders, and congregants bid farewell to the late Rev. I. T. Sackey, an esteemed minister whose more than three decades of service left an enduring imprint on the Church and its people.

The burial service, held at the Rev. Max Dodu Memorial Congregation in the Lartebiokorshie District, became a moment of deep reflection on faith, legacy, and the power of a life lived in obedience to God.

Presiding over the service on behalf of the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, the Chairperson of the Ga West Presbytery, Rev. Enoch Adjei Pobee, delivered a stirring sermon drawn from 2 Timothy 4:3–8. He portrayed the late minister as a faithful embodiment of Scripture—one who not only preached the Word but lived it with conviction, humility, and pastoral integrity.

Rev. Pobee warned of the contemporary tendency to reject sound doctrine, urging the congregation to hold fast to the timeless truth of Scripture. He described Rev. Sackey as a minister whose life consistently aligned with the biblical charge to “preach the Word… in season and out of season.”

In a heartfelt personal tribute woven into the sermon, Rev. Pobee recounted his early years in ministry, recalling how the late Rev. Sackey offered fatherly counsel and practical support at pivotal moments. He revealed that through Rev. Sackey’s guidance, he and his colleague, Rev. Commodore Paul Adjei Djan, were able to acquire land in Accra—an act he described as visionary, generous, and deeply impactful.

“His counsel was not abstract; it was life‑shaping,” Rev. Pobee reflected. “Even today, I continue to draw from the well of wisdom he poured into us.” Reading further from 2 Timothy 4:1–5, he urged ministers and congregants alike to treat the passage as both a spiritual mandate and a reflection of the late minister’s final testimony—calling all to steadfastness, correction of error, and endurance in the work of Christ.

Earlier in the service, the President of the Ga West Ministers’ Fellowship, Rev. Josephine M. Ankrah, delivered an emotional tribute. She described herself as privileged to have been the last probationer to serve under Rev. Sackey at the La Bethel Congregation, noting that his mentorship shaped her ministry in profound and lasting ways.

“His teachings have stayed with me from my probation to this day,” she said. “He was a coach, a father, and a spiritual compass.” The Clerk of the General Assembly, Rev. David Aboagye‑Danquah, presented a detailed biography of the late minister, highlighting his leadership, pastoral achievements, and unwavering commitment to nurturing younger ministers. The biography painted a portrait of a man deeply devoted to the Gospel and to the strengthening of the Church’s mission.

The service drew a wide cross‑section of attendees—retired ministers, active ministers, traditional authorities, family members, and members of the wider Christian community—testifying to the far‑reaching influence of Rev. Sackey’s life, ministry, and legacy.
